Landscapes, Cityscapes, & Scenics
I paint from memories and snapshots, and most of my work is inspired by scenes I have been fortunate enough to observe in my life and travels and daily reminders or the beauty that surrounds us if we take the time to look for it.
Seascapes, Sailing, Beaches & Boats
I love the irony in the expression Sailing Through because it implies that something is done with ease. To me, sailing is the awesome feat of harnessing the forces of nature, wind and water in our innately human pursuit of progress. "Sailing" through anything usually requires a combination of preparation, patience, skill, and hard work. I paint seascapes as a sailor with an unintentional penchant for steering into the wind and a fear of losing sight of dry land, with an appreciation for the beauty of the journey.
Stills
I've always found the designation Still Life to be somewhat of a paradox. Defined as a work depicting inanimate (not live) objects, or fruits or flowers, or other things that were once live, but are not still live, they are just still. Hence, I prefer just Stills.
